How to Clean Up Vomit

How to Clean Up Vomit...1. clean up excess off the affected area. 2. make a paste of BAKING SODA and Water; 3. Take a spatula or spoon and generously spread it onto the affected area. It is almost like frosting a cake, except way less appetizing; 3. Let it dry overnight or until it becomes a powdery consistency again; 4. Vacuum it up!; 5. Repeat if necessary; if you still have lingering smell, try oxiclean pow...

Here are 10 home security tips to help you and your family stay safe:

Here are 10 home security tips to help you and your family stay safe:

  1. Inspect smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for dust and lint build up that can hinder sensors.
  2. Whether you are buying, building or just remodeling your home make sure to select roofing that is fire resistant.
  3. If possible, install a locked mailbox at your home and never put outgoing mail containing personal information in an unsecured out-box or in your mailbox for pick up.
  4. To help prevent tipping off burglars, if you plan to be away from home for an extended period of time, set your phone ringer to the lowest volume.
  5. Never leave notes on your door for service people or visitors when you are not home. It's a signal to burglars that the home is empty.
  6. Do not use indoor extension cords outdoors. A safe outdoor cord will read “Suitable for Use with Outdoor Appliances.”
  7. If your power goes out, a full freezer can hold food safely for up to 48 hours.
  8. It is recommended to have interconnected smoke alarms. These alarms are linked together; if one alarm is triggered they all go off.
  9. Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries. Attempting to recharge non-rechargeable batteries could cause the batteries to explode.
  10. Oily rags can easily combust, even without being exposed directly to a flame. Hang them outside to dry, and then throw them away in a metal can with a lid when finished.

Home Remedies for the Garden

Whatever you’re paying for high-priced garden solutions, it is far too much! Many concoctions can be made with ingredients you have in your pantry. Here are a few recipes I’ve found to be effective and can be made at home by any frugal gardener.
ROSE SPRAY-helps prevent diseases such as rust, blackspot, and powdery mildew.
Mix together:
  • 1-tablespoon baking soda
  • 1-teaspoon mild dishwashing detergent
  • 1-tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 dissolved aspirin
Add:
  • 1-gallon water
Mix together and pour into a spray bottles. Spray roses every 1-2 weeks.
DEER REPELLENT-will keep deer from nibbling plants for up to two weeks.
Blend and put through cheesecloth to remove lumps:
  • 1 raw egg
Add and mix:
  • 1-tablespoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1-tablespoon fish emulsion
Some have said to put this in the sun for a few days but I’ve found it to be stinky and very effective straight from the kitchen.
MOLE REPELLENT-will send moles to another garden.
Blend together:
  • 1-tablespoon castor oil
  • 1-tablespoon dishwashing soap
  • 1-tablespoon water
Mix with 2 gallons water and spray the ground where moles are uprooting your seedlings. Water in.
These homemade concoctions should be safe for the environment if used sparingly.

What do you do if you get into a car accident?

If you are involved in a car accident, the first rule of thumb is to keep everyone safe.

Make sure that no one in your car is injured. If no one is seriously injured, exit the vehicle after checking to make sure that no cars are coming.

If possible, drive your car to the side of the road to keep yourself out of the way of traffic.

Approach the drivers of the other cars involved in the accident, but remember to keep a cool head.

After an accident, everyone involved will be shaken up, and so level headed thinking will be tremendously helpful.

Additionally, no matter what happened, do not admit guilt at the scene.

Even if the accident was your fault, simply collect contact information from the other drivers and do not confess to anything until you speak with your insurance company.

The most crucial information to gather from other drivers after an accident is their license plate numbers, driver's license numbers, full names, telephone numbers and addresses.

Also collect their insurance information if possible. It's a good idea to keep a disposable camera in your glove compartment so that you can document an accident for your insurance company.

Take pictures of the overall scene of the accident, as well as specific damage to your vehicle and the other vehicles involved.

After collecting information from the other drivers and documenting the damage, call the police to file an accident report, and then call your insurance company.

If anyone involved in the accident has been injured, the very first thing you must do is to call 911.

Use any first aid equipment or blankets that may be in your trunk to attend to injured people until an ambulance arrives.

If any of your passengers, or the driver of your car, have been injured, you'll want to contact a personal injury attorney as soon as you get to a safe place.

Can I Fix My Bad Credit Alone?

Yes you can!

Here is some steps:

1. Get your credit report from. www.annualcreditreport.com
*You are allowed 1 free credit report a year. (or you can always apply for a card, get declined and then write the credit beau for your report. But that's much more annoying).

2. Find everything that you owe, possibly figure out how much debt you owe total.

3. Start calling each place 1 by 1. You have a few options. You can take a settlement amount...that you must pay upfront. This can be very low depending on how long the debt has been sitting there, but it looks worse on your credit.

Or you can set up a payment plan. In this case the company will often re-open your file, and the new ON TIME payments you make will reflect on your credit report. (This helps pay things down, and improve your credit)

**** ALWAYS request Receipts, and save them. If the company forgets to report it, you'll end up disputing it with the credit beaus, and you'll want proof you paid!

4. Cut up any current cards you have..etc. And do not borrow money until all this debt is paid.

*Once your all paid off. Then consider building your credit. I would avoid anything but a small loan. Maybe $2000. The reason I say loan not credit card. Its a fixed %, it has a specific pay off date. Revolving credit (credit cards), can spiral out of control quickly.

*The judgment will the hardest to take care of. Most judgments stay on your credit 7-10 years...even if they are paid. So it will be a negative spot for a while.

Good luck. We've been working on my boyfriends credit for 2 years. Its improved, but it just barely made it to the "fair" category this year. So I wouldn't expect a fast result in your score.

Seriously clever! A headlamp around a gallon of water = ambient light for your tent and a great night lamp when the power is out or for little kids campfire nights!! :D

If you want your house to smell heavenly

If you want your house to smell heavenly, boil some orange peels with a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon on Medium heat. My favorite smell in the entire universe, of all time.

DIY homemade cleaning product

Pour 1/2 cup baking soda and then 1/2 cup of vinegar. Cover up the drain during the crazy chemical reaction. Wait 15 mins and pour a pot of boiling water. It totally clears up the clogged drain caused by my long hair and it's easier on the pipes than Drano. Works every time!!

Silver Tarnish remover

Silver Tarnish remover

What you’ll need:

1) 1 cup of boiling water
2) 1 tablespoon baking soda
3) 1 tablespoon white salt
4) 1/2 cup white vinegar
5) 1 sheet of tinfoil, shiny side up
6) bowl (I used a soup bowl but you can use a larger bowl or even a bucket depending on how much silver you have)
7) Polishing cloth (I used a microfiber cloth).

What to do :

Boil the water.  While it’s simmering up, line the bottom of the bowl with the tinfoil, shiny side up.  I literally covered the bowl with tinfoil.  Then, add the salt and baking soda to the bottom of the bowl.  Add the vinegar slowly (prepare for the fizz) and mix everything together to dissolve the salt and baking soda.  You want all the granules to dissolve so that they don’t scratch your pieces (always thinking…).

Go Ahead & Wait

Add the boiling water to your bowl and then gently drop each piece of silver in the bowl.  Just let it sit, the chemical reaction does all the work for you.  If you wish, you can flip them over (like burgers on a Q) with salad tongs, just to ensure that both sides get exposure to the tinfoil.

Spit & Polish

Take each piece out carefully, being sure not to burn yourself, and buff it gently with your polishing cloth.  You should start to see all the tarnish come off and all the original glory of your silver come back!
If you have charms or stones, you can try massaging good old ketchup onto the silver and rinsing it clean…I don’t think this mixture is OK for enamelled charms (although I did it on mine – I was willing to take the risk).

DIY Homemade TV or Laptop Screen Cleaner

I know you can buy the fancy screen cleaners at the store, but who wants to do that when a DIY solution is so incredibly easy (not to mention cheap!)? Here ya go:

Homemade Computer/TV Screen Cleaner

  • 1 part plain white vinegar
  • 1 part distilled water (make sure you use distilled only!)
  • A clean, lint-free cloth. (I like using old, worn-out t-shirts from my rag collection)
Mix the vinegar and water. Store in a labeled container (I use an small canning jar). A spray bottle would also work.
When you are ready to clean your screens, spray a soft, lint-free cloth with the solution, OR dip the cloth into the jar.
DO NOT spray the solution directly on your screen, as it can drip down into places it shouldn't go.
Gently, wipe the screen with the damp cloth. It may take more than one application, depending on how dirty things are.
Enjoy your shiny clean screen for as long as you can before the flies land on it again or the kiddos attempt more finger art.

A Few Notes:

  1. A 1/2 cup of vinegar and a 1/2 cup of distilled water is a good amount to start with.
  2. You can store this as long as you need to.
  3. Why distilled water? Distilled water is free from minerals which leave smudgy water spots on your screens. If you wash your screens with tap water, you’ll probably end up with a dirtier screen than what you started with.
  4. I use this on our flat screen TV and my laptop. I’ve had no trouble with it. However, please use it at your own risk with your own equipment.
  5. If you have a black kitchen appliances (like me), this solution is a great way to shine them up. (Because of our hard water, wiping things down with regular soapy water leaves lots of spots).

Absolutely amazing way to add storage in a larger home.

Absolutely amazing way to add storage in a larger home. Could be scaled down for smaller homes and hallways also

How to make a smaller house feel spacious?

Some of the tricks I've learned are to use light colors, mirrors to reflect light and make spaces look larger, and good lighting. Glass top coffee and end tables visually expand your floor space. Upholstered pieces with legs also visually expand floor area. Big, dark pieces that sit right on the floor take up space and make your rooms look smaller. Go for sofas with clean lines and classic styling. No big huge rolled arms or overstuffed cushions, etc.

BTW, Ikea has some good furniture for small spaces.

As for art, I've found that a few large pieces make more of a statement than a bunch of small pieces scattered around. Pare down accessories to "just enough" - don't overdo, or you will end up with a cluttered look. Go for a few good looking pieces rather than dozens of little tiny stuff.

Keep clutter to a minimum, and keep your place clean and picked up as much as possible. This will help so much.

Opt for double duty pieces such as night stands or end tables with drawers, storage ottomans, chests and trunks, etc. Armoires keep televisions and elecronic equipment out of sight.

Keep windows sparkling clean, inside and out, and use lightweight or sheer fabrics for window treatments. Stay away from fancy swags and layers and "funeral parlor" looks. Keep it simple to let it natural light and give a feeling of airiness.

P. S. - I am having my carpet ripped out and laminate flooring installed throughout. I've got everything packed away and pared down to the bare minimum, and I like the look so much I'm thinking of doing some editing when I put things back in place. My little Barbie doll place looks so much more open and spacious.
